CO2 provides a high temperature solution for Hot Water Production

The Pure Thermal team have been at the forefront of the Industrial & Commercial CO2 Heat Pump sector for over 15 years and remains committed to delivering the highest-performing systems to meet the demands of each application.

CO2 Heat Pumps

Pure Thermal understand that Industrial and Commercial applications are now recognising that CO2 Heat Pumps can offer real benefits when applied efficiently delivering both high performance levels and flexibility in application and this is reflected in the Commercial CO2 Systems that Pure Thermal offers.

Pure Thermal CO2 Heat Pumps operate with the natural refrigerant R744 CO2 which importantly provides the Lowest GWP selection of 1 whilst also providing a practical and flexible Natural Refrigerant option for Hot Water Production.

R744 (CO2) is A practical Natural Refrigerant to apply within a Heat Pump delivering an operating temperature of up to 90C.

What are CO2 Heat Pumps?

CO2 heat pumps are heating and cooling systems that use carbon dioxide (CO2) as a refrigerant instead of traditional refrigerants such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) or chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). They work by compressing and circulating CO2 gas, which absorbs and releases heat as it goes through different phases of pressure and temperature. CO2 heat pumps are considered more environmentally friendly than traditional heat pumps because CO2 is a natural, non-toxic, and non-flammable gas that has a low global warming potential (GWP) and does not contribute to ozone depletion.

Whilst straightforward to apply design diligence must be exercised with respect to the maximum return temperature to a CO2 Heat Pump being 35C. This is a factor of the way in which CO2 refrigerant can be used in a Heat Pump and must be acknowledged and adhered to.

There are several reasons why you should choose CO2 heat pumps. Firstly, CO2 heat pumps are more environmentally friendly than traditional heat pumps that use refrigerants with high GWP values. CO2 is a natural gas that has a low GWP and does not contribute to ozone depletion, making it a more sustainable option. Additionally, CO2 heat pumps are more energy-efficient than traditional HVAC systems, which can lead to lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions. They can also be used for both heating and cooling, providing year-round comfort. Finally, CO2 heat pumps are often quieter and require less maintenance than traditional HVAC systems, making them a convenient and cost-effective solution.

CO2 Heat Pump Applications

CO2 Heat Pump Applications

With the capability to operate at high temperatures the Pure CO2 Heat Pump range can be specified for a wide range of applications including retrofit and new projects.

Where sustainability standards must be achieved to meet client or planning restrictions or regulations the Pure CO2 Heat Pump range provides a highly efficient, practical and cost-effective solution whilst future proofing the installation completely by removing the application completely from F Gas regulation & reporting requirements.

These barriers can now be removed by utilising the Pure High Temperature Heat Pump range.
