Industry Insight: Highlights from adeDemandRec25 at Westminster

Garry Broadbent and Umar Ahmed attended #adeDemandRec25

Garry Broadbent and Umar Ahmed attended the #adeDemandRec25 event at Westminster this week, representing the Pure Thermal team at a session focused on the future of decentralised energy and demand-side innovation.

We’d like to thank Lautaro A. and the adeDemand team for the invitation and the opportunity to take part in such an informative and engaging event.

Among the key points from the day were two practical solutions with real potential for low carbon impact in both public and private sector applications:

  1. Simultaneous Heat Pump-Chillers (4-Pipe 80°C): These systems offer an effective route to recycling sub-1,000kW waste heat, either to supplement or replace existing chillers. With significantly higher COPs compared to air source heat pumps, they deliver reliable low carbon heat for retrofit projects.

  2. Cold Thermal Batteries: When added to existing chiller infrastructure, these batteries allow systems to be decoupled from immediate load demands. This enables off-peak charging and access to low cost or low carbon tariffs while also providing valuable daytime peak demand capacity of up to 30MWh thermal.

Both technologies offer straightforward steps that can support wider carbon and energy planning goals while improving system performance.

We look forward to continuing the discussion and working with others on real-world applications of these ideas.
