Simultaneous Heat Pumps | Pure Thermal

Pure Thermal is excited to announce the launch of PALLADIUM range a true simultaneous heat pump unit.

Simultaneous heat pump systems are innovative HVAC solutions that efficiently provide both heating and cooling while minimizing energy consumption and operational costs. Their ability to recover and reuse waste heat makes them environmentally friendly and suitable for a wide range of building types and applications.

The PALLADIUM range has been designed with R290 natural refrigerant with an ultra-low noise capability.

A true simultaneous heat pump unit capable of operating in 3 modes viz heating only, cooling only and as a 4 pipe unit delivering simultaneous heating and cooling mode.

This range is a perfect balance between the sizing of the aeraulic section, soundproofing of the unit and the combination of top performance and operating limits stretched to the furthest possible point.

Simultaneous Heat Pump Units

Performance range: 50kW to 165kW

Refrigerant: R290

Medium temperature heating: +30C to +70C

Medium temperature cooling: -7C to +20C

Application limits: -20C to +38C external temperature when in heating mode

-10C to +45C external temperature when in cooling mode

Modes of operation: heating only, cooling only and Simultaneous 4-Pipe units to provide heating and cooling.

How Palladium Range Heat Pumps Work:

Propane heat pumps operate on the principle of heat transfer and compression. In heating mode, they extract heat from the outdoor air (even in cold temperatures) and transfer it indoors to provide heating. In cooling mode, they reverse the process to remove heat from indoors and release it outside to provide cooling.

Benefits of simultaneous Heat Pump systems:

  • Energy Efficiency: Simultaneous heat pump systems are highly energy-efficient because they recover waste heat from the cooling process and reuse it for heating. This energy recovery can result in significant energy savings compared to traditional HVAC systems.
  • Year-Round Comfort: These systems provide year-round comfort by efficiently delivering both heating and cooling. They can maintain stable indoor temperatures regardless of outdoor weather conditions.
  • Reduced Operating Costs: Due to their energy efficiency, simultaneous heat pump systems can lead to reduced operating costs over time, especially in buildings with varying heating and cooling demands.
  • Environmental Benefits: By minimizing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, these systems contribute to environmental sustainability.
  • Space Savings: Simultaneous systems typically require less space than separate heating and cooling systems, making them suitable for buildings with limited mechanical room space.
  • Quick Payback Period: While the initial installation cost may be higher than traditional HVAC systems, energy savings and operational efficiency can result in a relatively quick payback period.
  • Flexibility: These systems are adaptable to a wide range of building types and sizes, including residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

A ready retrofit for existing chillers

Can chillers be replaced by heat pumps? Yes, you heard that right, the true simultaneous nature of this range allows it to replace an existing chiller by providing cooling as well as heating simultaneously.

In facilities like hospitals, hotels, and industries, where the existing chiller has a continuous demand, the palladium range can replace the chiller and simultaneously offer heating without interrupting the power supply.

Dual source capability

Pure Thermal’s team can intelligently design the entire system package to operate this unit as a dual source unit.

The unit can operate as a ground source or air-sourced depending upon the higher-grade heat availability, if the external temperature / ambient temperature is higher than the ground temperature, in that case unit can pick up heat from the external temperatures.

Similarly, instead of ground, the unit can be connected to any higher-grade heat e.g.; chilled water return lines, waste heat from cooling towers etc. The unit can intelligently switch between low-grade heat to higher-grade heat based on load availability.

Pure Thermal is highly focused on thinking about the future.

The fluorinated hydrocarbons (“F-gases”) refrigerants, such as R134a or R410A have been in use for a long time now. These are synthetic refrigerants with a very high global warming potential and are harmful to the climate. In most of the applications, these refrigerants are completely banned, this asks for the adoption of natural refrigerants.

The latest PALLADIUM range is completely future-proof, it uses a natural refrigerant R290 with a very low global warming potential of 3 and an Ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0.

R290 (Propane) refrigerant functions in the same way as other refrigerants like HFO, HFCs that have been in use up to now. The use of natural and “green” refrigerant propane (R290) makes this a climate-friendly heating system.

Here are some benefits of propane refrigerant:

  • Low Environmental Impact: One of the primary advantages of propane as a refrigerant is its extremely low GWP. It has a GWP of 3, which is significantly lower than synthetic refrigerants like hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), which can have GWPs in the thousands or tens of thousands. Using propane helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigates climate change.
  • Energy Efficiency: Propane has excellent thermodynamic properties, making it highly energy-efficient as a refrigerant. It has a high coefficient of performance (COP), meaning it can provide efficient cooling or heating while minimizing energy consumption. This leads to lower electricity bills and reduced energy demand.
  • Safe and Non-Toxic: Propane is a non-toxic, non-corrosive, and non-ozone-depleting refrigerant. It poses no harm to human health when used properly. It also does not contribute to stratospheric ozone depletion, unlike some older refrigerants.
  • Good Heat Transfer Properties: Propane has excellent heat transfer properties, making it effective at transferring heat during the refrigeration cycle. This results in efficient cooling and heating processes.
  • Improved System Reliability: Propane refrigerant systems often experience less wear and tear on components due to their efficiency and non-corrosive nature. This can result in increased system reliability and fewer breakdowns.

  • Universities and educational institutions
  • Leisure centres
