Pure Thermal is pleased to confirm our appointment as the official sales and technical distributor for Fafco’s IceBat cold battery system in the UK and Ireland.
IceBat is a Cold Thermal Energy Storage (CTES) solution designed to meet the varying cooling needs of commercial and industrial settings. Whether the demand comes from building HVAC or process cooling in manufacturing, IceBat allows cooling to be produced and stored when it is most efficient, then used when it’s needed. Acting as an “ice battery”, the system is charged and discharged using the site’s existing chiller or cooling plant—removing the need for additional equipment.
Garry Broadbent, Director at Pure Thermal, said: “We’re seeing increasing demand for cooling load shifting and capacity management across a wide range of applications. Having worked closely with Fafco and seen the proven performance of IceBat, we’re proud to become their UK partner. There is clear potential for Cold Thermal Storage to play a greater role in the UK and Ireland, particularly with rising energy costs and carbon reduction targets.”
IceBat offers multiple benefits for energy and cooling strategies:
-
Increases cooling capacity to meet peak demands, from 150kWh to over 9,000kWh
-
Reduces installed chiller size while improving resilience
-
Allows chillers to run at full capacity, regardless of load fluctuations
-
Uses low-cost electricity by enabling off-peak charging
-
Cuts operating costs and reduces carbon from existing systems
-
No additional cooling plant required—compatible with existing chillers
-
Flexible charging and discharging, from 10kW to 1,000kW+
-
Suitable for retrofit or new-build cooling systems
To support the launch, Pure Thermal is hosting an open day at the Institute of Energy & Technology, Savoy Place, London, on 18th March. The event will include a series of technical seminars on Cold Thermal Storage and how IceBat can be integrated into current and future cooling strategies.
